Distro Name:
iSite Essentials (iSE)
Release:
1.0-rc8
Drupal core:
6.14
Maintainer:
LevelTen Interactive

The LevelTen iSite Essentials (iSE) is extended distribution of Drupal designed for building enterprise-class Web 2.0 style websites. It comes in a single download that includes Drupal core, over 60 contributed modules, and several additional custom modules in a pre-configured installation profile.

The primary purpose of Essentials is to make the true power of Drupal accessible to all. Drupal is unmatched in the open source world as far as flexibility and extensibility. However, this power comes at a cost; a significant learning curve. It is our hope that the iSE distribution will greatly shorten that learning curve and guide people towards using enhanced interactive websites.

The Essentials profile is ideal for websites that need a brochureware section and want to integrate Web 2.0 portal features. In addition to standard pages, it comes with variety of customized content types and sections:

  • Blog – Standard Drupal blog with some add on blocks to get more of a WordPress experience.
  • Wiki – A version controlled encyclopedia with alphabetically paginated glossary view. Just double bracket a phrase anywhere on your site and it will automatically link to a wiki page. Maintains lists of "to be created" and orphaned wiki pages. (modules: Freelinking, Diff, Talk, Wikipage, Wikitools)
  • Articles – Nodes that paginate on inline headers to create search optimized table of contents.
  • Forum – Standard Drupal forums with a couple of tweaks. (modules: Flat Comments)
  • Answers – Q&A nodes with an accordion style FAQ view. Use this to help sell or to decrease customer service costs.
  • Portal Home – A dashboard view of most recent posts to your blogs, wiki, articles and comments that can easily be reconfigured to support any content type.
  • Landing Pages – Designed to complement your Pay Per Click and organic search marketing, they act as product focused sales one sheet. Landing Pages optionally integrate a web form to capture those leads after your perfect sales pitch.
  • News Room – Includes Press Release and News Article content types with reverse chronological views and RSS feeds for both. The newsroom includes a featured article and a listing of both press releases and news articles in a single dashboard page.
  • Events – Tell the world about important your events and show them off in the multidimensional events calendar. (modules: Date, Calendar)
  • Locations – Automatically geo code various places based on an address, then display them in Google maps and do proximity searches. (modules: GMap, Location)
  • Groups – Provides a very powerful way to organize your site around groups. You can build an intranet via private groups or allow your community to form groups for more context centric publishing and interaction. (modules: Organic Groups)
  • User Profiles – Create customized profiles for users to tell a little more about themselves. (modules: Content Profile)

More Essentials Features:

  • Content Construction Kit – Extend any content type with virtually any kind of field. (modules: CCK, Date, FileField, ImageField, GetID3, Link, Contemplate)
  • Views – Create a wide variety of listings. We have even added a few of our own helpful view definitions. (modules: Views, View Tagadelic, Calendar, L10 Views)
  • Panels – Need to divide your page content into multiple sections? Panels is the way to go. We have added two panel pages, newsroom and portal home, to get you started.
  • Taxonomy – Drupal comes stock with an advanced taxonomy system. We have added a few things to help you get the most out of it. For starters you can't be Web 2.0 without tagging, so we pre-configured free tagging and enabled easy tag cloud integration. Most of the included views have been configured for filtering by taxonomies. (modules: L10 Views, Tagadelic, Views Tagadelic)
  • Interactivity – A veritable content interaction bonanza at your fingertips. You can comment, tag, rate, syndicate, email, flag, subscribe, social bookmark, trackback, pingback and print any site content. Typical options per content type have been pre-configured for you. (modules: AddThis, FiveStar, Messaging, Notifications, Print, Trackback)
  • Social – People want to interact too. We have included several optional modules to enable user interaction. You can limit permissions to internal staff to form an instant intranet or enable them publicly to create a social media style site. (modules: Organic Groups, Private Message, User Relationships)
  • WYSIWYG Editor – TinyMCE is integrated to enable word processor like content styling tools. The tools are configured to provide popular options while enforcing a standard style guide so your author's “styling creativity” doesn't detract from your site's esthetics. You can even create different tool profiles for different users. We have pre-installed two for you, one for staff and one for the community.
  • Image & File Management – A dual mode, stand alone and WYSIWYG editor integrated, file manager has been included to enable users to upload, organize and display images and files in their posts. The Image Cache module enables powerful automated thumbnail creation to assure your photo accents always look their best. (modules: IMCE, ImageAPI, Upload, FileField, ImageField, Image Cache)
  • Site Search – Most CMS's internal site search leave a lot to be desired when compared with the likes of Google. A powerful stemming add on helps elevate Drupal's game. SiteSearchStats keeps you informed on what your visitors are looking for. (modules: PortStemmer, SiteSearchStats)
  • Forms – Build your own web forms from the simple to advanced, even multipage, without a programmer. You can email or save the data into the database to review later or export into Excel. We include a sample contact us form to get your started. (modules: WebForm)
  • Roles & Permissions – Drupal's role based permissions are great, but can be a little overwhelming. We preconfigured a standard set of custom roles and set all permissions - so you don't have to keep checking all those little boxes.
  • Search Engine Optimized – People need to find your better mousetrap. We have added several tweaks to Drupal's already search friendly architecture to enable you to dominate the rankings (modules: Page Titles, Meta Tags, Global Redirect, XML Sitemap, Path Auto)
  • Spam Control – Email harvesting, comment spamming and malicious behavior – spammers are relentless. While no solution is perfect, we equip you with the tools you need to fight back and win most the battles. (modules: Captcha, Spam Span, Re-Captcha, Uncaptchalous)
  • JavaScript – JavaScript plugins gives your site that Web 2.0 wow. Drupal comes with a few out of the box, we have added several more. (modules: JS Tools, LightBox2, jQuery Plugin)
  • Themeing – Zen has become the defacto starting place for a great optimized site theme. Its included with a few modifications to assure all Essentials modules are properly supported. (modules: Custom Breadcrumbs, Zen)
  • Administration – Enhanced admin navigation, help, database and content management – these modules will make you a super admin. (modules: Admin Menu, Advanced Help, Backup & Migrate, Node Export)
  • Dev – Hopefully with the Essentials you won't have to do any programming. If you do, we have included several modules that will help out tremendously. (modules: Coder, DB Tools, Demo, Devel, Schema, Token)
  • Analytics – The Essentials is setup for easy integration with Google Analytics. We have even configured it so you can track all your goals upon web form conversions. (modules: Google Analytics)
